designer's own words:

This creation is a shoe that wears the rain. Most of the things we wear on our bodies are not made with the assumption that they will get wet from the rain. The things that do presuppose getting wet are made in such shapes and with such materials as to avoid the rain. These shoes, on the other hand, are designed with shapes and materials that "accept the rain." This creates an entirely new scene at the feet. It is an opportunity to take on something that we had been unconsciously avoiding. It is a product that encourages the discovery of a nearby phenomenon. The upper of the shoe creates an overall bowl-like shape, and the water that falls there moves around freely, just like a living thing. It produces a charming form at the feet, a face different from the one we usually see from rain. For this product, a waterproof treatment is added to a shape made with thermally-treated polyester cloth. By using polyester rather than the hard, tight vinyl materials used for conventional rain shoes that appear to repel water, the design makes a gentle, light impression.
