spotting the movement in the market, sancal identifies with the trend towards creating more and more comfortable public spaces, where soft seating is being sourced for lobbies and breakout areas. these zones, originally the preserve of five star hotels and restaurants, are now commonplace in offices and even in shopping malls.

the search and desire for products with a domestic character, which are practical and durable enough for public spaces, is bringing alternative manufacturers to the fore. the spanish furniture company has become a popular option with architects and interior designers with its fusion of cosiness and slightly peculiar design.

the sancal ‘tortuga’ has quickly established itself as one of the marque’s favorite lounge chairs. its high back makes it ideal for curling up with a book, power snoozing or making a private call. however, for those looking to create an open, uncluttered space, the piece of furniture has now been designed without its headrest.

the ‘tortuga’ chair’s base still retains its familiar comfort with memory foam quilting and has a self-cantering foot. rejecting the off-the-shelf components that can make rotating chairs look very similar, sancal has developed its own: a solid steel structure shrouded in ash wood. the timber can be stained from a wide array of colors adding an extra dimension to the design.
