the centre of the baltic town zingst is introduced to TAUMASCOPIO an unusual artwork made up entirely of mirrors. it is a space within a space and a way out of reality’s forms and perspectives. conceived by italo-french architect mattia paco rizzi, the kaleidoscopic installation links daily life on the streets to something from another world. according to the designer, ‘people enter the artwork and change for a moment their view and knowledge of reality’.  in other words, it does not only offer a playful tool for children but also a brief meditative place for adults wanting to escape their everyday life.

mattia paco rizzi  realised an intriguing structure that seems to have dropped from outer space. interestingly when a person finds themselves inside the artwork, the aesthetic looks significantly like a high-quality design found in boat and airplane construction.
even more, the TAUMASCOPIO takes on the shape of a prism split in half and the space in between creates the entry point to the installation. finally, for the curious pedestrians passing by, two opening on both ends were added so that people can peek into the object.
