architecture firm aires mateus has designed this secluded dwelling, which consists of four separate structures. located on the edge of a small chain of hills, the holiday home sits above the southern portuguese village of melides, offering unobstructed ocean views. the property is set within a large park, with board formed concrete used throughout the scheme’s construction.

aires mateus’ design draws from the vernacular portuguese architecture of alentejo, which has been reinterpreted with the architect’s distinctive minimal style. of the four structures, three include double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. the final volume contains primary living accommodation, alongside a kitchen and a further double bedroom with adjoining bathroom.

the dwelling’s interiors are painted white, with a mixture of modern and vintage furniture on display. the kitchen is fully equipped, and can accommodate cooking for large groups of people. each area of the home has access to the eastern patio, which overlooks the gardens and an orchard of olive, orange, lemon, and oak trees. the buildings are air conditioned and can be heated in winter. the house, which can sleep up to 8 guests, is currently available to rent from approx £3,900 per week ($5,120 USD).
