during salone del mobile 2016, sancal took us on a blast from the past — reminding us of where it all began. presenting its ‘futura’ collection against a backdrop reminiscent of the space age epoch and more futuristic endeavours, the spanish brand staged its latest furniture series within a scene influenced by the architecture of the 1960s, recalling sci-fi films such as 2001 a space odyssey — offering its own interpretation of a space station where one could engage in a new interior look, and discover design trends to come…

as travelling in space should be sophisticated and classy, the ‘futura’ collection offers nothing less than an out-of-this-world living experience with seven new furnishings: ‘tortuga’ and ‘silla40’ by nadadora; ‘vesper’ by sebastian herkner; ‘tonella’ by note design studio; ‘duplex’ by MUT design; ‘obi’ by rafa gracía; and ‘C1-C4’ by elena castaño-lópez.

the ‘duplex’ coffee table by MUT design lies low, reminiscent of streamlined aircrafts, keeping a minimal profile in the cosmos of sancal.

the loneliness of the universe was offset by station breakout areas featuring the ‘tonella’ mini lounge chairs by note design studio, accompanied by sebastian herkner’s ‘vesper’ tables — their generous, rounded forms subtly recalling the shapes of shuttles, space suits and the orbiting planets.

each piece on show presented a living environment that is less confined, full of expressive freedom and comfort, allowing visitors to float through a stylish, futuristic space.
