embellishing the urban landscape of any city, the ‘asian cobra tower’ by russian architectural designer vasily klyukin is envisioned as a symbol for wisdom, longevity and luck. the image of a snake conjures an array of interpretations depending on the culture and community of the place, but its powerful presence and perception is universally acknowledged.

mimicking the form of a giant snake rising up from the ground, the sinuously-shaped skyscraper houses offices and apartments in its body. at its head, gaping jaws serve as the sprawling terrace of a penthouse restaurant and night club, overlooking the surrounding terrain from a great height. a gold-plated, diamond pattern running along the back of the snake illustrates the symbol of yin and yang — a chinese philosophy that reflects the idea of contrary forces being complementary, interconnected, and interdependent. additionally, just as some reptiles shed their skin, the façade of the skyscraper changes color by night, subtly shifting through a spectrum of hues.
