this dwelling designed by grupo arquitectura consists of two geometric volumes connected with an elevated glass walkway. appropriately named ‘la casa en el bosque’, or ‘the house in the forest’, the property allows its inhabitants to feel as if they are at one with nature as they move from one area of the home to another. located in a suburb of mexico city, the program is divided between two concrete buildings, one housing primary living accommodation and the other containing relevant services.

a range of materials have been employed in the project’s construction, with wooden beams and large spans of glazing complementing the concrete and steel frame. in order to integrate the interior with the surrounding landscape, the design team placed an emphasis on open-plan spaces with generously proportioned openings. floor-to-ceiling glazing presents sweeping forest views, while ensuring a high quality of natural light. an impressive double-height living room is organized around a steel fireplace and adjoins an open air terrace. at mezzanine level, a dining area overlooks the lounge below, alongside a spacious kitchen.

the house consists of two geometric concrete volumes

in order to protect against direct sunlight, certain façades have been clad with aluminum sunshades. however, owing to its orientation and high thermal mass, the house remains at a comfortable temperature throughout the year. in terms of sustainability, all windows are low-E, while wastewater is recycled and used for irrigation. all electrical systems are automated, including the home’s lighting, audio, video, security, heating, and blinds.
