designboom promotes milan’s cultural + creative hotspots for airberlin

with the designboom headquarters based in milan, we know a thing or two about italy’s most international hub, and the hidden gems it has to offer! so with her local expertise in tow, designboom architecture editor natasha kwok took to the streets with APOLLO.TV to share her insights into this great italian city. for the multi-platform network’s ‘uncovered urban discovery’ video series the crew visits various cultural capitals around the globe. the features give viewers a unique perspective on each location through engagement with local young, creative, social media influencers who express the essence of their city, beyond the normal stereotypes — a little off the beaten path, and far off the usual tourist trail.

we proposed many venues and districts in milan for visitors and locals alike to take in italian arts and culture, enjoy a milanese aperitivo (‘happy hour’), or just wander around and take in the sites. we stopped off at a selection of these hotspots that have come to define milan as a city, and its place in the global creative scene. our favorites include la triennale di milano – an italian institution for architecture, art and design; hangarbicocca – an ex-commercial plant on the outskirts of milan that is dedicated to the creation and promotion of contemporary art; as well as the trendy restaurant and cocktail bar carlo e camilla – established by michelin star chef carlo cracco with art direction by tanja solci, set inside an historic sawmill whose industrial past is maintained in the interior design of the space.

we chose milan as our first destination as it’s a italy’s most international city, yet it is not a tourist trap,’ said melanie mohr, APOLLO.TV’s CEO. ‘we wanted to capture the essence of the hustle and bustle and find out what makes it such a creative powerhouse for the rest of the world. we uncovered milan’s fast beating cultural pulse from visiting the magnificent hangarbicocca to finding milan’s elusive street artists.’

while designboom elaborated on the cultural art and design offerings of the city, fellow milan insiders fabio attanasio of thebespokedudes.com, and instagram photographer andy-kate ferrario, contributed their go-to fashion, tailoring and food points such as cascina cuccagna for a good meal made with locally grown italian produce; and the famous concept store 10 corso como.

after milan, APOLLO.TV’s ‘uncovered urban discovery’ series heads to abu dhabi, berlin, helsinki, miami, stockholm and vienna, going behind the closed doors of each metropolis in search of buzzing creative energy. apart from appearing on APOLLO.TV’s network, the ‘uncovered urban discovery’ series is being shown on air berlin‘s fleet of planes, which currently transports thirty million passengers per year; as well as being shown on their media systems at airports.
