eora 3D is a high precision 3D scanner that is entirely powered by a modern smartphone. it lets users capture physical objects and surfaces, and turns them into high-quality digital models, all on the phone, making it very affordable. 

the team considered every element that defined professional 3D scanners – the processors, cameras, turntable design, projected light scanners and laser-based scanners. but by harnessing the power and optics of a modern smartphone, eora 3D knew they could reduce the parts count and invest instead in the one part that makes high precision scanning possible – the laser.

most consumer 3D scanners use a red laser, but digital camera sensors are twice as sensitive to the green spectrum as they are the red. this means the users can scan in a variety of lighting conditions, and even outdoors. the added wireless bluetooth turntable can make scanning smaller objects even easier. the chassis is a single piece of extruded 6061 aluminum, which is necessary to maintain the rigidity of the entire system. the body is designed to ensure no vibrations occur doing the laser scanning. the team at eora 3D is looking for manufacturing funding on their kickstarter campaign with plans to ship the 3D scanner by june 2016.
