LS8 - Multifunctional Chair by Pedro Quintela from portugal

RESEARCH:
The aim of this Chair is to reflect the authentic and versatile LEXUS Vision of it progressive Luxury Design philosophy. For this, a historical research of the Company’s "Genetic Codes" was made since it origins with Toyota. The essence of the “Spirit of Invention” of its founder Sakichi Toyoda is present here by approaching an object with a holistic overview, as something beyond what it is, enhancing it beauty and utility by re-inventing it.

ARTISTIC QUALITIES:
It organic shape, asymmetrical lines and lightweight, allows, with simple rotations of the object, to discover different positions to sit. Just as the feeling of experiencing the driving of different styles of cars manufactured by LEXUS. It can be described as “An Inhabited Sculpture". More than a Chair, it´s about a piece of Design with a minimalistic concept that meets the needs and comfort of our daily life.

INSPIRATION:
This Chair was inspired in the junction of two elliptical forms that represent parts of both LEXUS and Toyota logos. Together they complement each other forming a structure with a number “8” shape which gives its name to the project: “LS8”. This number symbolizes prosperity (of the Company) and multiplicity; equilibrium; harmony and balance (between the Chair and the user/client). It represents as well the “Eight goal of the Millennium” witch is: Develop a global partnership for development.

TECHNOLOGICAL QUALITIES:
The Design is based in two stylized chrome-finishing profiles in which the Chair lands in either different position plus two elliptical surfaces that compose the structure connecting both profiles. The proposed lining is continuous leather finishing as used in the car seats. This will never touch the floor due to the collateral profiles heights.

WHY LEXUS?
Due the Company values of refinement, extreme quality vision and history, I believe that the possibility to develop this project supervised by your highly talented teams and exceptional creative resources will result in a surprising and unexpected LEXUS product. It might be revealed to celebrate the long-term experience of 80 years producing quality cars.

CONCLUSION:
The new LS8 dares, through its craftsmanship, identity, provocative perplexity, beauty, truth and luxury, to gain the respect and confidence of the LEXUS team. It aims to go beyond it shape, form, function and any trends. Its about achieving innovate ideas that could help enrich peoples life’s by solving situations through a parallel way of thinking.
