CRN launches cutting-edge, completely custom 55m atlante luxury yacht

ferretti group’s specialized 50 to 90-meter custom shipbuilder CRN, formally announced their experimental new megayacht – the 55m ‘atlante’. this yacht is the result of work by the CRN’s technical office, which oversaw the naval design, in partnership with studio nuvolari lenard, which was responsible for the exterior silhouette and studio gilles and boissier interior design which developed the interiors. while visiting the CRN shipyard in ancona italy, designboom witnessed the complex construction of the ‘atlante’, where dozens of workers were hand-building every aspect of the yacht.

the yacht is 55 meters long and 11 meters wide, with a very strong stylistic identity drawing inspiration from the style elements typical of military ships. the yacht features square forms, sharp lines and innovative solutions, combined with an attention to stylistic and aesthetic details of the interior. the ‘atlante’ boasts four different and custom decks as well as the owner’s suite, four VIP cabins for a total of 12 guests alongside the 13 crew members.

there are many stylistic features requested by the owner himself, who was personally involved in the construction right from the initial phases, providing formal input on yacht’s details. these include custom handrails in polished steel with a trapezoidal profile. the designers insured the yacht had a strong sense of intimacy with color schemes dominating the different areas – the dark colors of the hull and superstructure are also found in the interior, alongside varying tones of italian marble.

access to yacht starts from the lower deck where guests can find a solarium, sunbathing areas and custom made tables. the symmetrically layout also includes a relaxation area with a massage bed and a turkish bath, while the other side is dedicated to fitness with technogym equipment. access to the engine is also available from the lower deck.

the main deck is reachable by the grey marble staircase or by the built-in elevator. the multi-purpose area transforms from a garage that holds three tenders – two custom made limo tenders designed by nuvolari lenard, and a five-meter inflatable boat, to a living space that has a home theatre. to drop the tenders, CRN created a closed stern solution that has two side hatches which open mechanically upwards with two cranes installed on the ceiling to lower into the water.

the main salon has a large sliding glass door matched with dark oak and light decor that gives the area a warm and welcoming effect. all the interior finishings are custom made, from the tables to the sofas. large vertical windows provide suggestive light and reflections. the main salon also contains the only internal dining area on the whole yacht, composed of two large tables.

passing the lobby, a wide corridor led us to the owner’s suite. the room displays all the materials and woods used on board. the full-beam master stateroom opens up to an office with a sliding desk and a leather table which also slides along rails parallel to the sofa positioned along the entire right-hand wall. the suite also includes a wall-mounted TV and sofa. in the bow next to the suite, the full sized bathroom has his-and-hers areas covered entirely in dark grey marble with a central shower cabin whose walls are in grey-veined white marble.

finally, the experimental upper deck houses art pieces, black teak sofas and an adjustable dining table with polished steel frames combined with removable director’s chairs. the whole deck offers expansive views over the sea with floor-to-ceiling windows. while visiting the CRN shipyard, designboom also sat down with chief interior designer costanza pazzi, where she discussed the overwhelming requests she receives, her influences and important characteristics of interior yacht design used for the ‘atlante’ – check out our article here.
