OBBA blurs boundaries with their floating oasis pavilion in south korea

based on the grounds of the amorepacific museum of art, OBBA architects have realized an ethereal pavilion called ‘the oasis’. exploring fluid architecture that crosses the boundary of space, the curvilinear shelter is visualized as a white structure supported by poles which also serve as seats. circular openings have been cut from the roof, framing perfect circles of the sky above, meanwhile a curtain of white thread runs the length of the pavilion’s perimeter. reminiscent of willow leaves, the curtain moves along with the breeze – blurring the boundary between the inside and outside – and most of all, functions as a scheme that adapts to the ordinary landscape into a place of quiet contemplation.

since 2013, the amorepacific runs a public art project APMAP (amorepacific museum of art project). it is a relay exhibition of contemporary art that travels across the different amorepacific workplaces in south korea. each year, the apmap brings a exhibition specific to the new location and its context. the APMAP explores an area of blurred boundary between the ordinary life and art, by experimenting with simple exhibitions in the everyday workplaces. previously, the APMAP was held in the beauty campus in osan in 2013, and in osulloc of jeju island in 2014. this year’s 2015 APMAP is staged at the amorepacific r&d center.
