concept mclaren recalls 1988 livery for the future of formula one

formula one has a hard time deciding what the future of the sport will look like. to prevent fans from getting bored, the major teams have tossed new ideas for 2017 with new car designs, bigger wheels, and possible 1,000 hp engines. this could mean the aerodynamics of the current F1 cars would be fundamentally different and all the solutions the team developed would then be worth very little. 3D artist and modeler nathan dearsley decided to show the great creativity hope of formula one with the 2056 mclaren ‘mp6/p’.

the decals are from the classic 1988 version that ayrton senna drove

the prototype strips the aerodynamically complex body panels with sharp lines that still enable for low speed traction. the race car is covered in honda and marlboro decals from the classic 1988 version that ayrton senna won his first world title. the renderings of the 2056 mclaren ‘mp6/p’ gives a bit of small nostalgia to the pinnacle times of formula one.
