‘mono’ is a lifestyle oriented retail, art gallery, and events space in the heart of budapest, hungary. the art+design oriented business couldn’t ask for a better location, but unfortunately the existing façade made it easy to overlook, and even easier to forget about. hungarian visual designer kissmiklos was tasked at changing the face in order to garner attention during the crucial summer season. his concept comes straight from the depths.

crafted sea creatures swim inside

first, a massive white element stretches from the building into the sidewalk. eye-catching in itself, kissmiklos then uses the store’s expansive glass windows to focus eyes within. a blue gel filter covers the surface, giving the appearance that the entire shop is submerged in water. products on display, along with a curated group of ocean-dwellers, present themselves dimly through the ‘dark waters’. at night, interior lamps shine out into the street, turning everything within a deep, greenish blue.
