warsaw cutout models recreate eastern block modernism

the ‘eastern block’ or ‘blok wschodni’ collection by zupagrafika recreates modernist buildings dating from the era of communist rule in the form of paper cut-out models.  the series is comprised of iconic examples of functionalist architecture, including the rotunda PKO as well as other less notable examples of the periods characteristic styling such as: za zalazna, brama, smolna 8 and mokotow and wielka plyta.  each paper model is constructed from 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper and includes the year of construction, architect and location.

zupagrafika’s series has been the recipient of various honors including the ‘must have 2014 award’ at the lòdz design festival and a nomination for the ‘good design award 2014 by the polish institute of industrial design.
