rounded silhouettes define autoban’s union furniture for de la espada

autoban‘s 2015 collaboration with de la espada sees the istanbul-based design agency rounding out the silhouettes of a bed and sofa pairing. presented at maison&objet 2015, the ‘union’ collection carries a bold aesthetic defined with simple lines, featuring warm wood structures with graphic details, complemented by subduedly toned soft, upholstered elements.

alongside the ‘union’ bed and sofa, is autoban’s ‘maze’ table which is a contemporary take on kündekari — a traditional woodworking technique that dates back to anatolian seljuk and ottoman periods. ‘maze’ is constructed by an intersection of two patterns, but looks deceptively simple offering a visual play of optical illusions.

the design of the ‘union’ collection and ‘maze’ table embody autoban’s architectural approach to design, and the studio’s favoured themes of layering materials and textures.
