austrian studio coop himmelb(l)au has released images of their competition-winning ‘flying garden tower’ project to be located within the ‘gateway gardens’ at frankfurt’s airport city. the twisting 67m-tall glass tower becomes an easily recognizable, almost sculptural form that will house the headquarters for many major corporations. the building form allows for a considerable energy efficiency, opening the north and south facades for solar gain while the east and west facades contain a string of suspended gardens and atria that filter the direct light and help cool the interior space. it is behind these gardens that the conference rooms and informal meeting areas are located, while the rest of the structure contains open office plans enjoying natural light and views.
