construction begins in china at jean nouvel’s qingdao cultural complex

construction is underway at the site of jean nouvel’s ‘artists’ garden’ in the chinese city of qingdao. developed in collaboration with the shandong international coastal cultural industry, and now approved by local government, the 70,000 square meter cultural complex will contain a museum and various creative institutes alongside artists’ studios and a specially designed marina.

seeking to promote a dialogue between architecture and art, the project combines a range of educational areas with exhibition halls and market spaces. upon its completion, the ‘artists’ garden’ will reflect the energy of modern-day china, while simultaneously enriching qingdao’s cultural scene.
