producks reveals kahawa tables for artisan at imm cologne 2015

the image of the traditional moroccan coffee table was the starting point for producks‘ (yoav avinoam and gil sheffi) ‘kahawa’ (which means ‘coffee’ in arabic). extending from a collaboration with bosnian wood furniture company artisan, the design of ‘kahawa’ takes the main elements of a table — its legs and horizontal surface — and employs them in a new manner. this sees the former extending through its top, creating a manner in which the supports double function as handles for transporting the piece. made from solid wood of elm, maple or oak, with a powder coated steel framework, ‘kahawa’ is being presented at imm cologne 2015 from january 19th-25th, 2015.

‘kahawa’ employs the main elements of a table in a new manner

‘we were looking at wood as the heart of the project responding to artisan’s DNA. the company has a rich tradition and such high craftsmanship, it was clear to us we would like to let the wood be the hero of the design. through the dialogue between our starting point of the moroccan coffee table and the purity of the wood we asked what if the legs of the table go through the table top and create a new kind of decoration in context to the traditional design. ‘kahawa’ series comes in elementary round and rectangle shapes and encourages playful compositions for different spaces that together with a variety of colors gives a range of possibilities.’ – yoav avinoam and gil sheffi of producks
