shai levi‘s ‘illusion drawings’ started with thinking about ways to create a maximum amount of space with a minimum amount of visual information. the medium of illustration typically is brought to life through a variety shading techniques such as hatching, stippling, and smudging. with a series of simple two-dimensional sketches, the designer has translated flatness into three-dimensional constructs of welded metal bars. the depth is further emphasized with the addition of light. as a source of illumination is provided, a contrasted dialogue of shadows is developed as they are projected onto nearby surfaces, capturing the intricacies of their materials, edges, and imperfections.
