the ‘MM01’ by mob and margules is a project that establishes a form of collaboration within mexico where both studios contributed with their expertise and developed a unique sound system, whose core values rely on handcrafted technology, manufacturing techniques, and hi-fi audio reproduction. as a first approach, mob’s team spotted a need that was not being covered by any other equipment: a device that spared all the wires and different individual components to play music with high quality through a beautiful aesthetic.

they needed to develop a piece in which all the required automation and pieces were included, a product that could fit any habitable space without visually or practically altering it. mob says, ‘that is how the search for the perfect collaborator started, it needed to be someone that not only developed hi-fi sound systems but also shared some of our core values and philosophy: the importance of details and the manufacturing methods.’

after further research they came upon julian margules’s work, an enthusiast for the precise reproduction of acoustics. his firm has practiced for more than 84 years on the national market and all of its projects pursue a clear goal: to play and enjoy music. the planning of this work represented a challenge for both teams. after the creative process began with meetings to establish parameters and align the form with the functionality, the production of the piece started.

the materials used for the construction are not only ruled by the appearance but also by the functionality of the system. walnut is the main ingredient. finished with a coat wax and oil, in the form of veneered MDF and solid wooden legs it allows the MM01 to be wall mounted or to stand by itself. a thick band of nude polyester and cotton fabric wraps around the volume to compliment the natural color palette. on top, an attached marble shelf with turned brass spikes and neoprene provide a platform for a turntable, suppressing the vibrations of vinyl records for optimal performance.

the equipment integrates the best bluetooth technology on the market to avoid audio distortion – airplay, two mini plug and two RCA inputs. the key to playing files and preserving their depth is the digital decompressor that enables them for their high quality playback. in addition, tube amplifiers grant a total harmonic distortion of <0.02%, a 40-140 hz cutoff frequency on the subwoofer network, and a 20-20k hz total system response, making them pleasant to the human ear. when these components reach their power limit, this tends to compress what is not capable of reproducing; while a transistor one, in the same circumstances, causes a shrill sound.
