for mario alessiani, the challenge behind offiseria‘s ‘vela’ table lamp was to create an affordable metal design piece just with folding and laser cutting. within these restrictions, the italy-based designer decided to use a cut tube to hold the bulb in place and a small alloy sheet to direct the diffusion of light throughout the surrounding space. using the required technology allowed for the formation of a hole that fits the dimensions of the soldered, cylindrical shell. the result is an object that is stable but thin, with nothing more than whats necessary, revealing the story told by the processes behind it.
