ICA miami to build permanent home in the city’s design district

it has been decided that miami’s institute of contemporary art, (ICA miami), will build a permanent home for the museum as part of the city’s design district. designed by spanish firm aranguren + gallegos arquitectos, the 37,500 square foot design will be constructed on land donated by miami design district associates, and is being entirely funded by irma and norman braman. the announcement coincides with this year’s edition of design miami/, a forum for design that brings together the world’s collectors, gallerists, designers and curators.

while the permanent home is being constructed, ICA miami will remain in the landmark moore building, which officially opens on tuesday, december 2, 2014, with two major exhibitions showcasing the work of pedro reyes and andra ursuta. the building enables the institution to expand its reach of programs with over 20,000 square feet of exhibition space. final designs for the museum will be released in early 2015, with a projected completion date scheduled for december 2016.
