the adornments seen on doshi levien‘s ‘kundan’ mirror cabinet make reference to the indian gemstone jewellery — defined by sequences of geometric shapes — for which the furniture piece is named. kundan motifs are employed to embellish the mud constructed interiors of nomadic homes in kutch, a district of gujarat state in the western part of india, where the designs are usually combined with mirror inlays, reflecting the natural sunlight onto the interiors of the dwellings.

conceived for galerie kreo, doshi levien have embellished the sideboard with mathematical logic of pattern. rhythmic groupings of mirrors are found across its front, accompanied by numeric and pictorial symbols, such as the culturally significant lotus flower, and systematic markings of squares, lines and circles, which define each section of the design.
