A Crosswalk for Smooth Crossing by 上中直樹 from japan
designer's own words:
[Real Problem]
Pedestrians running into each other on the crosswalk is a problem that occurs frequently around the world. For example, the Shibuya Scramble Crossing is famous for having many such accidents (see "Image 1").
[Proposed Idea (Solution to Real Problem)]
As a solution to this, we came up with a crosswalk with lines bent back and forth like arrows.
[Changes Incurred by This Idea (Result of Solution)]
By walking on the right side as the arrows indicate, the people crossing past each other will be able to cross smoothly without running into each other (see "Image 2"). For example, if this is applied in reality to the Shibuya Scramble Crossing, the complicated situation seen in Image1 becomes unbelievably easy to navigate without any collisions (see "Image 3"/"Image 4"). Since the crosswalk is now made of arrows, the body is unconsciously pulled in the right direction, so you could say this is a design project that unconsciously stimulates the senses.
