tripasai uses flower embroidery to enliven private residence in bangkok

pich tripasai and keiko koide of tripasai architect have created a fresh idea for personalizing a living space. playful yet sophisticated, they have applied this experiment to the enttrance lobby of a private residence in bangkok. as a result, the lounge is enriched by a coexistence of old and new components, both displaying multi-cultural aspects through contemporary craftsmanship. a combination of thai style wooden furniture, so-called ‘kha singh’, and embroidered flower petal backdrop wall define the atmosphere. as focal points for the scheme, the partitions utilize a sequence of tiny dots that develop a perception of rhomboidal grids. this technique recalls the art of ‘sashiko’, a traditional japanese form of stitching meant to repair worn portions of fabric with new threads and patches. here, the process allows the implementation of colorful cotton yarn sewed randomly between each perforation to articulate vivid flower petal motif.
