Mineko stool by Studio BAAG from italy
designer's own words:
The Mineko stool is inspired by the obi sash that is typically worn with a kimono by Japanese geishas. Originally the obi was used to keep the kimono closed but the contemporary women’s obi is used only as a decoration and accessory.
We wanted to reinterpret this beautiful accessory and regive it a functional value as well as a decorative value and a contemporary look. The obi is not in traditional silk fabric but in embossed neoprene. This material makes it both resistant and modern. The pattern is a traditional pattern that can be seen on Japanese origami paper, and it gives the neoprene an elegant yet cool look. The base of the stool is in ash wood that is commonly used in Japan and the shape of it is inspired by Japanese temples. The neoprene cushion is fixed to the wooden stool with a grosgrain ribbon.
The Mineko stool can be used in all everyday living spaces due to the resistance and durability of its materials. A playful piece made with different kinds of joints which makes it easy to mount and minimizes the size of its packaging, to bring down shipping costs.
