in a quiet residential neighborhood of fukushima city, japanese architect jun ishikawa has completed a two-storey dwelling that offers both privacy and seclusion from overlooking buildings. appropriately named ‘box house 06’, the enclosed property features a narrow strip of windows that run the length of the front façade, while lightwells are used to illuminate other areas of the design.

internally, accommodation is spread across two primary storeys and a mezzanine level. the ground floor contains a double-height master bedroom and various storage space, with the children’s rooms positioned above. the home’s living quarters are found at the uppermost level of the plan, where an external terrace adjoins an open-plan kitchen-diner.
