uniting painting, sculpture, music and digital art, french artist miguel chevalier has created ‘origin of the curve’ for samsung at IFA 2014, a sculpture drawing reference from the sweeping design of the tech-giant’s curved UHD TV. the monumental installation is composed of 8 overlapping arced screens, including 26 samsung 65″ curved TVs, which demonstrate the virtual-reality artwork that shifts and transitions to music by composer, jacopo baboni schilingi.

projected onto the screens, vivid and colorful patterns continuously change shape and evolve. undulating waves multiply in abundance, divide, and merge in both slow and rapid rhythm from one screen to another. saturated spirals gradually turn to subtle variations of monochrome of blue, red and green. the patterns appear in an almost psychedelic arrangement that generate a visual experience. to amplify the multi-sensory and immersive space, infrared sensors allow visitors to interact with ‘origin of the curve’ by creating distinct aesthetic fluctuations of brightly colored geometries.
