haviv + fieldman create honest DIY chair from duct tape + broomsticks

rolls of duct tape and broomsticks are common items that serve different purpose within the home. when we use the former, we take it out of our drawers to secure the edges of boxes that we ship to our loved ones or when we’re moving. when we use the latter, dust and other dirt must be swept from the floors of our kitchens and bathrooms. contrary to the typical uses of these devices, limor haviv and nimrod fieldman have taken them and combined their properties into a work called ‘honest chair’. 

the name is derived from the fact that, staying true to their characteristics, the components provide a completely DIY construction process. an added feature is a functional graphic intent on the tape with detailed instructions. they appear as diagrams and labels, which are represented by letter and number combinations that specify the joint location and dimensions of the piece. once the adhesive has been torn off and applied to the cylindrical surface of the broomstick, users must saw through the wood and break away the excess material that may be saved for another part of the puzzle.

once all of the lumber material has been utilized, the vertexes are secured by wrapping their connections, using the loop of the tape as a handle for the material to maintain its shape and not stick to itself. the result is a combination of two triangles that intersect as the opposite of one another to create a three-point base and seat.
