federico babina intersects art with stylistically similar architecture

in his latest series of illustrations, federico babina has united the fields of architecture and fine art to create ‘ARTISTECT’ — a collection of 25 images which parallel famous painters and celebrated structures. chosen for their overlapping of styles and creative approaches, the mash-ups allow famed buildings by shigeru ban, zaha hadid and SANAA to assume metaphysical, cubist, dadaist and surrealist compositions. ‘these images are a metaphor for an imagined and imaginary dialogue between creative minds‘ babina describes ‘le corbusier talks with picasso and kandinsky discusses with wright.’
miró x SANAA
at first glance, the audience is able to quickly recognize the artist — joan miró’s organic forms and sol lewitt’s geometric ‘wall drawing #564’ are instantly recognizable. it is only after focusing on the details that the viewer can understand the architectural content hidden within.
