spanish practice roberto ercilla arquitectura have recently completed ‘dwelling in etura’, a single family home in etura, spain. partially embedded into the landscape, the living spaces of this residence are positioned within the terrain and cantilevered over the sloping hill. predominantly concealed from view at street level, the building footprint occupies only 9% of the site, minimally impacting the environment. the only visible element is a butterfly roof supported with the main portal, leading to a stairway into the below grade interior. overhanging to form two carports, inhabitants may transition beyond the driveway and walk onto an expansive lawn positioned above the projecting concrete volume.
the bedrooms are glass-fronted to open views to the surrounding context, while a balcony from the projecting living room show the descending hillside below. in addition to the insulative qualities of the green roof, energized with biomass and water-saving features reduce the structures consumption.
