The Coin Kubus by S A from uk
designer's own words:
What invisible little problem that most families are aware of, but rarely tackle? It is estimated that the average UK household has at least £50 worth of copper pennies* stuffed in jam jars or hidden in sofa corners, but the process of collecting, counting and sorting them into little bags makes harnessing this particular resource long and tedious. The Coin Kubus is an attractive cube sculpture (hard plastic, manufactured by 3D-Printing) on the floor of a bank branch which takes all those pennies and counts them out, with a precision that matches Deutsche Bank’s “Passion for Performance”. As a token of goodwill, it is a free service. Special assistants linger around, to guide correct usage of the Coin Kubus, but their real purpose is to present information and advice to customers. In other words, the Coin Kubus is a meeting point and ice-breaker, as the typical customer is notoriously confused about all things financial.
But still the concept of Coin Kubus does not stop there. What makes it come alive is the one demographic group that banks often neglect: Children. The Coin Kubus was inspired by a particularly memorable childhood trip to the bank.
