within the dimensions of the present-day closet, people have a limited amount of space to store shirts, jackets, jeans, and accessories. over time, the number of belongings can increase to such a great extent that people become unaware of how much more they can actually place inside. this leads to the epiphany that they made need to ‘lifehack’ and reorganize all of the articles. people may try to find new ways of folding, using shoeboxes as cheap containers, or even just getting rid of some clothes altogether. instead of completely transforming the organization of the closet to adapt to a wardrobe that will only continue to grow, ivan zhang of a’postrophe design has designed a multi-functional device simply called ‘hanger’.

seeing how clothes hangers are typically rigid and static structures, the germany-based studio has developed a product that replaces plastic and metal wires with an elastic material. in doing so, its flexibility allows the overall shape to be manipulated from a normative condition into two paratactic hangers secured by interlocking lap joints. the result appears as two loops placed one on top of the other, each with corresponding arms extending outwards to both sides. this combination of components grants users the ability to hang and remove multiple articles of clothing at once. small accessories such as scarves and necklaces can be placed through either of the holes while larger garments such as blouses and coats can be suspended from the horizontal bars. without adding extra materials, the design makes it possible to configure outfits for the next day’s events and reduces space in the wardrobe.
