twenty kilometers to the west of tokyo, japanese practice yaita and associates has built a residential property that establishes a close relationship with its natural environment. the entire region was conceived 90 years ago as a planned garden city, positioned atop a lushly vegetated hill.

in order to maximize the site’s spatial characteristics, ‘house for green, breeze and light’ utilizes carefully placed apertures that provide the dwelling’s occupants with direct views of nature. a long vertical slit, that stretches across both storeys of the property, also allows constant ventilation and pleasant internal breezes.

the ground floor is surrounded by an L-shaped wall that forms a garden enclosure between the partition and the home. stairs lead upwards to the dwelling’s primary living accommodation which features a curved storage unit positioned in front of an elongated window. at the plan’s uppermost level a large master bedroom features a decorated folding-screen door, with an adjoining balcony offering further external views of the property’s green surroundings.
