from the perspective of the land, project A01 architects‘ summer residence in carinthia, austria, is reminiscent of the dynamic form of a ship, floating above the turquoise waves of the wörthersee. from the perspective of the lake, the villa, bath house and boat dock seem like embedded terraces in the landscape. as opposed to utilizing a commonly used concrete to meet the demands of the irregular form, the designers have deliberately chosen a special type called ‘fiberC’ by rieder smart elements.

the durable material has been selected for its sustainable properties as well as its ability to articulate complex geometric shapes. a combination of colorful ferric oxides blended with natural raw components supplies the possibility for three surface finishes: sandblasted, finely sandblasted, and brushed. this range of tactile effects from smooth to rough creates an interplay of shades with light cloud effects that can be applied to exteriors, interiors, and special applications. utilized within this context, the custom cement mixture constructs the polygonal roof, façade, and ceilings that are adorned with a gradient of square perforations wherever necessary. this establishes a sustainable light-, UV- and weather-resistant system that will protect the architecture from moisture, dirt, and decay over time. complementing these features is a morphing visual that reacts to the natural processes of the surrounding environment as the appearance of the panels can darken in relation to the weather or brighten due to dehydration.
