sipho mabona has taken over the great hall of the tropenmuseum with larger-than-life origami birds that hang high above visitors. the master in the japanese art of paper folding has constructed the entire flock out of large sheets of square paper that measure 2.7 – 5.4 meters in size, which sees the wing span of the flying animals range between 2-4 meters. the installation entitled ‘giga origami’ will continue to grow in magnitude over the course of the summer (from july 7th to august 31st), as patrons to the cultural center are being invited to engage and add paper birds to add to the flight in what is said to be a real ‘crowdfolding’ project.
