‘ringve museum’ by link arkitektur is norway’s national music center where visitors and citizens can discover the history of composers, the invention of instruments, and the development of symphonies through societies.  located on a hill on the lade peninsula near trondheim, the design provides great views of the cultural landscape and trondheimsfjorden, a narrow inlet of cliffs near the norwegian sea, surrounding the site. the buildings, situated in a typical homestead arrangement, were erected from 1740 to 1952.

the structure is fitted with an extension, as well as rehabilitation and refurbishing of the existing architectures. the addition is located outside of the stead enclosure as a ‘black cube’ for temporary exhibitions. the work of the building is in part influenced by the resonance boxes featured in many musical instruments. from the media library, occupants will find relationships to the botanic garden surrounding the estate. a common entry area with a reception, museum store, and cafe connects both the permanent displays of the barn and temporary exhibitions located in the manor. in addition, the old banquet hall has also been upgraded and refurbished. one of the main goals of the project was to secure an environmentally friendly space, which is why it is norway’s first museum to be built in compliance with the passive house standard.
