cy kuckenbaker continues his series of time collapsed videos, this time taking to the san diego seas where surfers flock daily to catch a wave. interested in the manipulation of water and the repetition of patterns it creates, kuckenbaker has removed the space between rolling waves, and has compressed one hour’s worth of surfing footage into a two minute film. ‘watching in person can be very slow and depending on the swell there may be long stretches when nothing happens at all.’ kuckenbaker describes ‘this video is a playful attempt to split the difference and reveal just how much can actually happen in an hour in an otherwise nondescript surf spot with non professional riders.‘ layers upon layers of crashing barrels and wave riders maneuver through the open waters, continually looping the scene into a mind-bending reinterpretation of time and space. watch the video, and the making-of, below.
