asymptote envisions parco degli angeli in tuscan countryside

asymptote architecture has been commissioned for the design of the ‘parco degli angeli’ (park of angels) located in the the italian hill town of peccioli. the complex includes a covered 800-seat ampitheater and multiple interactive sculptures. the landscape also hosts numerous places for observation and appreciation of the surrounding countryside. the new york-based office envisions the project as ‘a unique opportunity to intervene within a pristine landscape and to make evident the possibility of juxtaposing a provocative and inspired future against a remarkable and historical significant context.‘

the sculptural canopy structure contrasts the surrounding landscape

the facility seats 800 guests and embraces an openness to the countryside context

the large ampitheater incorporates intelligent responses to environmental forces through a kinetic canopy. the white tensile fabric cladding transforms through a system of apertures and directional funnels, serving to mediate airflow and daylight, while embedded photovoltaics harness energy from solar exposure. this ‘responsive skin’ is being developed in collaboration with structural engineers Knippers Helbig and Trannsolar Environmental Engineers.
