‘house in fukai’ is an extension to a large family home, located in a quiet residential area of osaka, japan. designed by naoko horibe of horibe associates architect’s office, the dwelling is positioned next to the existing building providing extra floor space for the multi-generational household.

at the rear of the property a small protruding deck overlooks the garden, forming an extension of internal living space and providing a place where inhabitants can relax outdoors. the proportions of the structure are designed to compliment the existing building, while a gabled roof and white rendered walls contrast the main house. internally, smaller spaces are organized around a long kitchen and dining area that forms the centerpiece of the home. sleeping quarters are found at the property’s upper level with a large master suite accommodated in addition to two smaller bedrooms that open out onto a spacious balcony.
