LHA loosely defines floor levels of mini step house in japan

japanese studio LHA, lambiasi + hayashi architects, inc. has completed the ‘mini step house’, a building based on connecting separate rooms via half-floor increments. located in japan, the volume features a series of stairs and voids that tie the spaces together. upon entering, the first level consists of an open-plan dining and kitchen zone, and from here one and a half floors leads to a tatami mat area. traversing up another set of steps, the center of the house is presented where a southern facing balcony, living and bedrooms are combined. clad in an abstract arrangement of metal panels, the two storey structure is loosely defined, and feels even more fluid from the inside.
