the stroblkeller in southern austria converted over from its previous life as an active winery to a 4 story renovated structure representing the weinmanufaktur clemens strobl company. local architects christof mark and marek gut of march gut together with the office of wolfgang wimmer spent a year retrofitting a new purpose into the slowly deteriorating structure, featuring a new storage cellar and presentation area below ground, wine tasting on the main level, food service, terraces, and a temporary bedroom in the floors above. as the project is so closely centered around a topic which requires such meticulous attention, the architects followed par with a renovation and expansion that takes on each existing element as  an intricate piece to the composition as a whole, all the while redefining its interior aesthetic in a more contemporary sense. certain parts of the old building were restored, others changed entirely, and some completely new. the cellar fosters a snug acoustically insulated cavernous environment with muted light- the main level by contrast contains constant views of the vineyards.
