located within the zhang jiang high-tech park, french office silvio d’ascia architecture has completed the data processing center for the shanghai futures exchange. the vast ten-hectare site references the digital age of super computers, with individual functions organized as chips within a computer motherboard, while the site is traversed by a pedestrian path, recalling the lines of electronic circuits joining different parts of a microprocessor.

composed of 14 buildings housing production, research, development, and recreational activities, the complex is divided into three bands. the first contains office space in rectangular volume sliced into five sections by entry lobbies. the second accommodates presentation buildings, a welcome center – used for events and exhibitions, an on-site sports center and a 10,000 square meter data center. finally, a series of smaller, organically arranged buildings are located in the park area containing the conference center and its hotel tower.

echoing ancient chinese geometric shapes and patterns, the various façades incorporate binary signs and geometric forms shaped by manipulating two smaller rectangles and one larger one. the resulting composition leads to various configurations of three parallel lines.
