philips has introduced ‘onespace’, a luminous LED panel capable of covering an entire ceiling surface with a homogenous white glow. the illumination system arranges low energy lamps with sound absorbing textiles in a mesh-like network to create a matte glowing surface that completely hides the light source. ‘this innovation will redefine how light can be used in architecture and design,’ says antoon martens from philips lighting. ‘light is now an architectural component – it is no longer an add-on in a space,’ he adds.

the LED panel emits white light that recreates the feeling of being outside. it can be dimmed and connected to building management systems, enabling centralized control to switch it on or off for greater energy efficiency. the ‘onespace’ luminous ceiling is available in customized sizes up to 10 x 3 meters, and is especially suited for car showrooms, flagship retail stores and public spaces like airports, hotels and conference facilities.
