mybrickell residential tower in miami by karim rashid

karim rashid has completed ‘mybrickell‘, a residential development that provides city living at the heart of miami. designed for the related group, the tower comprises 184 apartments spread across 25-storeys, while the 215,000 square foot project also features an expansive lobby, fitness suite, pool bar and a host of retail outlets at ground floor level. working alongside local practice arquitectonica, the result is a bold and dynamic building that allows its occupants to relax, socialize and work in an efficient and enjoyable manner.

surrounded by restaurants, nightlife and boutique stores, the site is conceived as a destination in its own right – part of a larger development that includes the ‘brickell citicentre’, (a complex offering high-end shopping and hotels) and ‘resorts world miami‘, (a waterfront entertainment park).

upon entering the building the lobby’s ceilings welcome the visitor with sinuous and angled canopies. a cantilevered fiberglass reception desk morphs from the interior through the glass façade into an external planter, while original backlit sculptures by karim rashid protrude from the opposing wall.

a residents-only club room features a bar and media lounge, while the on-site fitness club offers residents the chance to exercise before work or during lunch breaks. at the tower’s highest point, a roof terrace featuring a pool, offers panoramic views of the miami skyline. tiled in orange, fucsia and white mosaic tiles, the deck is populated by sun beds, while rashid’s original backlit artwork is suspended above the illuminated bar. individual apartments have the feel and character of bespoke-designed residences, with high-end finishes, imported fixtures and an efficient program of space.

‘I don’t think of my work as exclusive or elitist, I think of it as democratic yet luxurious, high designed while still friendly and accessible for everyone. I am here to democratize design, to make a better place for everyone, a more sensual, more comfortable, and more beautiful world for everyone. I want to free design. everyday I live I believe that we could be living in an entirely different world – one that is full of real contemporary inspiring objects, spaces, places, worlds, spirits, experiences. I feel I must inspire. that is my goal,’ explained karim rashid upon completing the project.
