positioned within a densely populated neighborhood of osaka, japan, ‘house twisted’ occupies an awkwardly shaped plot of land, contorted in response to the demands of the site. designed by kyoto-based office alphaville, the residence achieves a dynamic and rational program through simple spatial manipulations.

surrounded by traditional housing, three slanted roof planes contain skylights bringing natural light into the heart of the dwelling. three carefully placed openings – the porch and the kitchen and courtyard doors – serve as direct interfaces between the property and its surroundings, oriented to face the interior at 45 degree angles. the choice of wall partitions and fixed furnishings ensure a variety of spatial qualities throughout the one singular volume. moving through the house, a sense of discovery and intrigue develops as the perspective of the home continually shifts.
