working alongside quiet mark and john lewis, blue forest have designed a tranquil treehouse complete with state of the art sound engineering. the development – entitled ‘the quiet treehouse’ – will be unveiled at the ideal home show, before being donated to the chestnut tree house children’s hospice in west sussex, UK. the structure will provide children and their families with a safe and stimulating environment in which they can play, relax and spend time together.

renowned for their bespoke timber structures, blue forest’s designs reflect the environment in which they inhabit, encouraging people to develop a closer relationship with the outdoors. the stand-alone form of the treehouse is influenced by the shape of a small coppice of trees, where three primary trunks support the cocoon-like creation. accessed by a stairway which connects the two floors, the bold design can be installed independently, offering its user the feeling that they are immersed within leafy vegetation, looking down on the world below.

positioned at the heart of the show, visitors to ‘the quiet treehouse’ will understand about the power of noise we encounter in our daily lives through personal sound-portraits and a wild sanctuary animal sound archive. in order to minimize the transmission of noise from outside the building to the inside, the walls, floors and roof of the structure are lined with acoustiblok, a product made from more than 80% organic and recyclable materials.

‘so many temporary structures for shows are designed to only be up for a short while and are then dismantled and the material thrown out which is a tremendous waste. a key challenge of this treehouse project was to design something that could be installed at the ideal home show in only 7 days but that would be durable and long-lasting, providing real value for its final home at chestnut tree house hospice,’ explained andy payne founder of blue forest.

‘even within the rather stark environment of earls court exhibition centre, the treehouse will provide a quiet haven capturing something of the imagination and adventure of the hideaways we experienced as children’, furthered simon payne director at blue forest.

the scheme will be unveiled at the ideal home show which runs between the 14th – 30th march at london’s earls court.
