movedesign adapts shimoo ri apartment into flexible layout

japanese studio movedesign has renovated a two room apartment, opening its walls to form one connected space. located in a 40 year old building in shimoo-ri, fukuoka, japan, the original dwelling consisted of a typical layout for the surrounding context, with the living, dining and kitchen divided into separate zones. wanting to offer the inhabitants a more flexible lifestyle, the redesign moved away from such conventional plans, enabling them to choose how to these areas would be used. a wooden divider serves as a partition – the natural material is applied throughout to create a warm and comforting atmosphere. simple, customized details in the cabinetry are left to stand out as features in the light-filled and open apartment.
