yasuaki onishi unites rope, glue and crystals for vertical emptiness

using rope, glue and crystallized urea, japanese artist yasuaki onishi has used his trademark materials, mediums and textural application in the creation of an immersive sculptural installation. the suspended ropes that comprise ‘vertical emptiness (volume of strings)’ forms mesh bowl falling from the ceiling, on which onishi drips hot glue. a thin, glue line connects from the ground to the roof, with shimmering crystallized urea fixed along the fragile lines. the empty gallery space is filled with an amalgamation of gravity, time, action, heat and crystallization. the ethereal work has been recently exhibited as a part of ‘in search of critical imagination‘ at the fukuoka art museum, japan.
